I’ve always used a pair of side cutters or line-man’s snips. But we do have a tool specifically designed to cut cable ties. It’s our Economy Cable Tie Tensioning Tool (CTT-45). It tightens and cuts off the excess tie and works on all of our cable ties that are rated up to 75 lbs tensile strength.
Are stainless steel cable ties safe around electricity?
These are made from 304 Stainless Steel and are designed for harsh, corrosive, and salt-water environments. You could use these for low voltage applications, but caution is recommended for high voltage applications.

GB Heavy-Duty DoubleLock ties carry the high tensile strength as will as the Heavy Duty Cable Ties carry a rating 120 to 175 lb of tension strength.
Can our ties handle gasoline for use in gas tanks?
No. Only stainless steel ties should be used in this application. The fumes in the gas tank will breakdown the nylon in the ties.
Is there a way to extend the shelf life of a bag of cable ties after they have been opened?
Because cable ties are made of nylon, they will have a natural tendency to lose moisture over time as they are exposed to the air. Drier environments will speed up this process. To help extend the life of a bag of cable ties after they have been opened, add a drop or two of water to the bag, and then seal the top of the bag shut with tape. Make sure there are no other holes in the bag. If this is done each time a bag of cable ties is taken out and used, the shelf life of the ties will be greatly extended.
Standard shelf life on cable ties is 1 year from the date of production.
