No, UL will not recommend because of the various applications by the end-user.
Liquid tape is a brush on application that allows you to brush on each application and makes it easy to apply the tape in tight or enclosed spaces. Whereas the spray liquid tape is a spray that needs to be applied in an open area or a place that has good ventilation. Both products do the same thing and that is to form an electrical tape that is more of a coating or seal.
Yes, Liquid Tape is flammable but ONLY in its liquid state! Another one of our posts mentions drying and curing time. This and one other thing is very important and that is inspecting the connection you are about to use the Liquid Tape product on. A small short, friction, or heat in the cable can cause a fire if the tape has not been given the full amount of time to dry and cure. Remember, if the tape is not fully dried it is still flammable.
The useable temperature range of our liquid tape is -30˚F to 200˚F.
If the tape is still in a liquid state, wipe off of the surface as soon as possible. There is nothing specifically listed to remove from fabric, carpet, or upholstery. Use caution when using around these materials. A drop cloth under the work area is recommended.
If the tape has dried, then the solid tape would have to be cut and peeled back.
Yes. 10-20% Naptha or Toluene can be added to thin it out a bit. Care must be taken to not over-dilute. This can affect the dry time and dielectric properties, as well as create fumes. If thinning out the tape mixture, do so in a well ventilated area.
Shelf life is 12 months from the date of manufacturing. The date of manufacturing is listed on the top of the cover. The date code will be a 5 digit number. First 2 digits of the sequence of numbers will be the year of production, and the next 3 letters will be the actual day of the year it was made. For example, 10513would mean that this particular batch was manufactured on the 105th day of 2013.
To extend the shelf life, when storing the product, store the can upside-down. This will create an internal seal and will help keep the tape for thickening and hardening over time.
